The wait is over! XAN is now live and Anoma’s mainnet rollout has begun. Today’s launch introduces Anoma’s native XAN token and governance system, which are now live on Ethereum mainnet. The coordination mechanism for the Anoma ecosystem, XAN will power activity across existing Web3 networks, ‘real-world’ applications, and Anoma native instances. As the first phase of mainnet functionality to go live, XAN and Anoma governance enable the community to coordinate all future mainnet upgrades. 

This marks the beginning of Anoma’s mainnet rollout, which will proceed through a series of protocol upgrades that sequentially unleash the power of Anoma’s decentralized operating system, starting with a mainnet beta phase. 

Anoma is not another L1 or L2 blockchain. It’s a higher level of abstraction that shifts innovation upward to the application layer. It’s the operating system that unifies all chains into one seamless environment for developers and users to interact with.

Anoma is not an incremental improvement over existing technology. It’s a complete overhaul of how blockchains, dapps, and decentralized systems work. Based on novel research, Anoma redesigns Web3 from the ground-up to make it as user-friendly, composable, scalable, and flexible as possible. It will be the most significant upgrade for decentralized applications since the launch of the Ethereum Virtual Machine. This is an expansive, long-term vision that will take time to unfold. Beginning today with the deployment of Anoma’s XAN token and governance system to Ethereum, Anoma will take shape gradually over a series of upgrades, with more powerful functionality and support for additional blockchains and ecosystems rolling out over time. After Ethereum mainnet, Anoma will add support for key Ethereum L2s before expanding to other ecosystems. 

The ticker is XAN

XAN will serve as the global coordination mechanism for the entire Anoma ecosystem. This means XAN will power network activities and economic flows across Web3 and ‘real world’ applications, no matter where Anoma is deployed: from existing networks like Ethereum, Bitcoin, and Solana, to Anoma-native fractal instances and on-demand local consensus between mobile phones or other devices.

Starting today, XAN can be used for payments, fees, and to participate in Anoma’s governance system. Future phases of mainnet may include additional XAN functionality. XAN holders can use Anoma Portal or any ERC-20 compatible wallet to manage their tokens.

Anoma governance explained

The initial version of Anoma’s governance system, launched today, enables XAN holders to lock up tokens to vote on protocol upgrade proposals. The system features two governance bodies that can propose upgrades: the ‘voter body’ of token holders, and a governance council, which act as counter balances to each other. The governance council can propose upgrades when the voter body hasn’t reached quorum, and the voter body can veto proposals initiated by the council. This creates a system of checks and balances that prevents either body from acting unilaterally.

The weight of a token holder’s vote is proportional to the amount of tokens they choose to lock, ensuring long-term alignment with the protocol’s success. Tokens locked for voting can be unlocked following the proposal’s enactment. Like Anoma mainnet in general, Anoma’s governance system will evolve over time to include additional functionality for the ecosystem and community.

Introducing Anoma Portal

Anoma Portal is an Anoma-native application that will serve as the gateway to the Anoma ecosystem and all major protocol functions. Starting today, Anoma Portal can be used to view and manage XAN balances, and to participate in governance. 

The verion of Anoma Portal launched today is v1, but new features and capabilities will be added to Anoma Portal over time as mainnet upgrades unfold. Ultimately the goal is for Anoma Portal to evolve into Anoma’s Web3-native super app. It will also serve as a place to discover and use Anoma applications as they go live. Anoma Portal is compatible with any Ethereum wallet, including Metamask, Phantom, Coinbase Wallet, and Rabby Wallet for transaction signing.

Today marks the start of a huge leap forward for crypto. Soon developers and users will no longer be forced to deal with the complexities of blockchain infrastructure. As mainnet unfolds, Anoma will provide a seamless experience across Web3 and enable the types of applications that can finally compete with Web2.
