[Game review] Survival Run with Bear Grylls – More than just a Temple Run clone

Just when you’d put down Temple Run, out comes another game in the same style, Survival Run with Bear Grylls.

The gameplay is the same except in this game, Bear has more talent that Temple Run nobody.

At first it might seem like your typical “run away from the bad thing while swiping and tilting to get coins and avoid objects” (we calls these games RAFTBTWSATTGCAAO’s in the hope that it will catch on)… but it get’s a little different as you quickly progress through the game.

As you can see, at the beginning of each level a bear is chasing you but it gives up pretty quick as you near the trees, horses, canyons and other obstacles you have to swipe to avoid.

Bear Gryll’s voice is prominent throughout the game, saying things to motivate you as you jump, slide and dodge the never ending obstacles.

As usual, collecting the coins along the way will get you closer towards the bonuses you can purchase to get coin magnets, obstacle busting bonuses and even 8 different Bear Grylls characters and more.

The action differs when you start sliding down hills, it had me wondering what other activities Bear would get up to, and it looked like someone hadn’t just cloned Temple Run, but had found a way to improve it!

As you gain enough points and pass the distance for each level you up your coin gathering score multiplies by the level you’re on (Level 3 = x3 coins, etc).

We haven’t played it enough yet to see whether that negates the need to buy in-game coins with real cash but it seems easy enough to obtain a good amount of coins in the first hour or two of play.

Yep, those screenshots are correct, once you run a fair distance, nothing too long, the game gets better when you find a different set of obstacles, and a different form of travel.

Not one to take the bus, Bear Grylls  jumps of a cliff or into a swamp and the coin-party continues!

It does add an interesting twist to the genre, making Survival Run with Bear Grylls a refreshing change.

Anoma.net would have to agree with the average Play Store rating of 4.7, it’s a good little challenge and it’s free!
